About Our Clinic

Our goal is to provide hope and relief where there is none.

About Georgia Medical Acupuncture

For many of our patients, Georgia Medical Acupuncture is the place they come when traditional medicine has not been helpful. For others, acupuncture has proven to be an adjunctive treatment option. All our patients want is to feel better. That’s where we can help.

Our medical staff begins with a medical consultation and history to determine if acupuncture is right for you. If so, we’ll talk about the right protocol for you and set up your treatment plan.

Since 2015, we’ve been effectively treating patients suffering from chronic pain and a wide variety of other issues. Sheridan Spencer has been an RN for almost thirty years and continues to practice in a hospital.

MEET THE TEAM

Dr. Heidi Nicholson

MD, FACEP, Dipl Internal
Medicine, Dipl Oriental Medicine

I studied Psychology at the University of Texas and received BS in 1977. I worked in a Community Mental Health Center while working towards a masters degree and was deeply influenced by how often negative thoughts and feelings (worry, stress, anger) influenced physical health and wellness. I decided to attend medical school rather than pursue a PhD to further investigate what I was seeing. The busy-ness of family life and medical practice put my curiosity about this relationship on hold for several years. I revisited the association between stress and physical symptoms in the late 1990’s when I developed a persistent and very itchy rash that resisted treatment. Acupuncture had just become a licensed practice in Georgia and the idea of tapping into how the mind/body balance each other without counseling or medications was appealing to me. In 5 treatments, my rash of three months was gone and never returned. I was sold.

Following that experience, I became more sensitive to the frustrations of my ER patients. Often, the blood tests, CT scans and EKGs would clearly diagnose a problem that required medication or surgery. When the studies all came back with normal results, or the prescribed treatments did not provide relief, my patients did not know where to turn. I decided to go back to school to provide for them an alternative.

I completed an “Acupuncture for Physicians” course in 2007 and had privileges to practice added to my medical license and I began putting needles into everyone with a complaint or pain. I soon understood that the 300 hour course I had taken only scratched the surface of this elegant and complex for of healing and went back to school to get a Masters Degree from Southwest Acupuncture College in 2013.

I received my Master’s Diploma in Acupuncture from Jung Tao School of Classical Chinese Medicine in 2016.  As a Classically-trained practitioner I have an emphasis on individualizing treatments based on the ancient texts.  My transition to a natural approach to wellness occurred after opening over 25 years in critical care, specifically cardiology as a nurse.  I have been involved with many areas of health care for the past three decades and have achieved multiple certifications in both Eastern and Western medicine. I am Board Certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and am a Georgia Licensed Acupuncturist.  I have completed advanced training in Dr. Tan’s Balance Method of Acupuncture, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture, and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

As a member of the healing team, I am dedicated to helping people achieve health on all levels. My objective as a practitioner is to facilitate optimal health and wellbeing through treating the whole person versus just their individual symptoms.  I believe the body has an innate ability to heal itself and I incorporate Classical Chinese Medicine with other aspects of my training to create a treatment plan specific to the individual’s needs.  My goal is to provide a warm, caring and healing environment where everyone can experience the highest quality of holistic healthcare available.
